Primally Pure Deodorant

Review of Schmidt's Deodorant vs. Primally Pure Deodorant

The number one question I get is "when are you going to make a deodorant"? Honestly, I'm not sure if I'll ever launch one. For about a year I worked on and tested deodorant formulations, but even the best deodorant we made caused a bit of baking soda sensitivity (contact dermatitis) even with the lowest percentages of baking soda, and we just didn't want to add something we weren't 100% sure our customers would love. Lately, I've been on my own search for natural deodorants and I've come across a few good ones.
Update: We’ve now launched a deodorant that solves all of those natural deodorant woes like baking soda sensitivity, coconut sensitivity, wasteful packaging, etc!!!!!!!! Our deodorant is oil-free, doesn’t stain clothing, easy to reapply, goes with you wherever you go without making a mess, no baking soda rashes, skin discoloration, skin peeling, or drying alcohol. Get the Bambu Earth deodorant here.
Usually I buy one and it works fabulously for a while, then inevitably my body adjusts to it and it gives me some sort of issue, such as irritated skin, or just stops working all together. Until I found Schmidt's Deodorant. It's really a great deodorant. I love the scent combination options, that it comes in glass packaging and, most of all, that it works. And continues to work.
(Natural deodorants are not antiperspirants. Your body should sweat. It's kind of important that it does. So, if you're looking for something that will keep you from sweating, you won't find it here.)
After I'd been using Schmidt's Deodorant for a while, I was introduced to Primally Pure Deodorant. Primally Pure is a new company, but I've been using their deodorant for the past month and it's been incredibly effective. I also haven't experienced any irritation from it. That's a WIN! Keep reading for the break down of pros and cons (my opinion) of these two deodorants.
Looking for natural skincare that is formulated with simple and effective ingredients as well as sourced ethically? Shop Bambu Earth now.
Glass packaging
(if it melts, it can cool again without leaking)
Scent combinations
Great customer service
Continues to work for months and months
You have to apply it with an applicator
(but it is in a glass container, so...)
I experienced a little bit of baking soda sensitivity after a week or two of using.
(not as bad as some natural deos, but it's still there)
Consistency is kinda hard so you really have to rub it in
Application is easy - like traditional deodorant
Great customer service
The consistency is creamy and goes on easily
It works and I don't get any sensitivity
Continues to work (one month in!)
edit: still working (3 months in!!!)
Plastic packaging
Probably due to the easy application, I have to buy it more often
A bit more expensive on the cost and shipping
If you want the product that will work the best, Primally Pure Deodorant is the best option. Their product is superior. It does contain tallow (which is what helps reduce baking soda sensitivity) so if you're vegan, this might be a deal breaker. They also use plastic packaging. Otherwise, their product works well, smells good, and goes on smoothly.
If you aren't really sensitive to baking soda and on a tighter budget, Schmidt's Deodorant tips the scale a bit as more responsible and economical overall. It works well, has an affordable price point, and their product is packaged in reusable glass jars.
Update: Recently Schmidt's sold out to Unilever so we don't recommend them.

So glad I found this blog post! I have been searching for a natural deodorant that makes me smell good and doesn’t irritate my armpits. I was using pit paste for awhile then after about 4 months I started to get a bad rash under my armpits. I thought it was something I was eating but once I stopped using it and went to a baking soda free formula it went away. Unfortunately the baking soda free formula still doesn’t cover up my stanky arms and I have to apply about 3-4 times during the day. It’s the sensitive formula from pit paste. I really don’t want to go back to conventional deodorant but no one wants to smell like bo all day. A couple of week ago I had a wedding an so I put on some of the toxic stuff and I didn’t smell and it was so nice not to have to worry if I stink. I’ve been thinking of trying primally pure’s sensitive deodorant in lemongrass. I might try schmidts but i’m a little nervous it will make my armpit rash flare up again. Just wanted to know your thoughts on which one I should try. I am kind of wondering if there is something going on inside of me by the way I smell all the time and how the natural stuff never fully works, even the baking soda version. Sorry for the novel.

I love Primally Pure! I’ve also always found that my body adapts to natural deodorants and I’ve had to switch it up to keep up the effectiveness. But I’ve been using Primally Pure for over a month now, without any issues! It still works fantastically. It works better than anything else I’ve tried when I’m already a bit stinky too!
