Let’s unpack some of the most common questions surrounding natural cleansing oils.

Is cleansing oil good for your face?

Yes! Oil-based cleansers help remove makeup and dissolve impurities while maintaining your skin’s acid mantle (its protective oil barrier). Detergent-based cleansers might provide a quick clean feeling, but they strip away natural oils, leading to imbalanced skin.

Our skin possesses a natural protective barrier made up of oils and lipids. These play a crucial role in maintaining moisture levels and safeguarding against external pollutants and irritants. Natural oils are also responsible for preserving the skin's pH balance and overall health. Harsh, detergent-based cleansers can strip away these oils, leaving the skin vulnerable and parched.

As a result, the skin enters a state of imbalance. It tries to compensate for the lost oils by producing more sebum, leading to several skin issues. Combination skin may develop, where certain areas become dry while others become excessively oily.

Overproduction of oil can also clog pores and trigger breakouts, making the skin more prone to acne. Additionally, without its natural protective barrier, the skin can become sensitive, leading to redness, irritation, and discomfort.

How often should I use cleansing oils on my face?

We design our oil-based cleansers for daily use. Many customers prefer the end of the day to remove any accumulated dirt, impurities, or makeup before bed.

If you find yourself needing an extra cleanse, you can use morning and evening on occasion. Be sure to monitor your skin’s moisture levels and reduce to once daily if you experience excessive drying or oil.

Do you wash your face first before using cleansing oils?

Not necessarily. Both our Dirt & Makeup Cleansing Oil and our Activated Charcoal Cleansing Oil can be the first step towards achieving a clean, healthy face.

If summer is in full swing, you’ll find yourself using additional sunscreen, sweating more, and experiencing your skin’s extra oil production. There’s no better time to consider double cleansing. This process uses two different cleansers (one oil-based, followed by another water-based) to get your face as clean as possible, without irritating your skin.

Year-round, but especially during the summer months, we think you should avoid using detergent-based (bubbly or foaming) cleansers. They can cause the skin to work harder to produce more oils usually resulting in combination, breakout-prone, sensitive skin.

We’ve assembled a simple guide to cleansing that doesn’t strip your skin of its healthy, natural, protective oils.

How To Use Cleansing Oil For Your Face

Our simple, 3-step routine guides allows you to dissolve impurities while helping your skin maintain balance. The result? Clean skin with a soft, dewy skin feel.

Step 1: Remove Makeup

Begin by using the Dirt & Makeup Cleansing Oil along with a Facial Pad to gently eliminate eye makeup, lipstick, or full coverage foundation.

Removing makeup prior to starting a skincare routine allows products to penetrate effectively, preventing clogged pores and breakouts. It ensures a clean canvas for maximum absorption of beneficial ingredients, promoting healthier and glowing skin.

Step 2: Apply Oil Cleanser

Choose either the Dirt & Makeup Cleansing Oil or the Activated Charcoal Cleansing Oil. Apply two dropper-fulls of the cleansing oil to your dry face, gently massaging for 1-2 minutes. Then, use a hot (but not steaming) facial cloth to remove the oil.

Oil cleansing is effective because it dissolves makeup, dirt, and excess sebum without stripping the skin of natural oils. It promotes balanced hydration and helps maintain a clear, radiant complexion.

Step 3: Cleanse With Water

To complete your cleansing routine, eliminate water-based impurities using our Rosewater Cleanser. Apply it to your skin with a Facial Pad and then rinse.

Water-based cleansing is gentle and suitable for all skin types. It removes impurities, sweat, and debris without leaving a residue, promoting a refreshed and hydrated complexion.

When selecting a natural cleansing oil for your face, it's essential to choose high-quality, plant-based ingredients free from synthetic fragrances, preservatives, and other potentially harmful additives. That’s why Bambu Earth uses only natural, whole ingredients, known for their skincare benefits and compatibility with most skin types.
